Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

about the book
Crusoe (the family name corrupted from the German name "Kreutznaer") sets sail from the Queen's Dock in Hull on a sea voyage in August 1651, against the wishes of his parents, who want him to pursue a career, possibly in law. After a tumultuous journey where his ship is wrecked in a storm, his lust for the sea remains so strong that he sets out to sea again. This journey, too, ends in disaster, as the ship is taken over by Sale pirates (the Sale Rovers) and Crusoe is enslaved by a Moor. Two years later, he escapes in a boat with a boy named Xury; a captain of a Portuguese ship off the west coast of Africa rescues him. The ship is en route to Brazil. Crusoe sells Xury to the captain. With the captain's help, Crusoe procures a plantation. Robinson Crusoe is a novel by Daniel Defoe, first published on 25 April 1719. This first edition credited the work's fictional protagonist Robinson Crusoe as its author, leading many readers to believe he was a real person and the book a travelogue of true incidents. It was published under the considerably longer original title The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, Of York, Mariner

my thoughts on the book

I have never really read this book. I had heard about it but I had never really read it. But I read it now to my daughter. We have been reading long books while she sits on the potty during her potty training. It has been a good way of getting her to sit still on it. It is a pretty good book and I am glad I read it to her. I hope that she will want me to reread it to her again or that she will read by her self in several years.

I think that everyone should read at least one classic book and this is a good book to start with. I bought it at a small used book store.

Happy Reading

If you had even one small thing that brought  you happiness, or hope that things could someday be better, then maybe that would be enough to sustain you. Otherwise, I fear it will be too easy for the queen to win."

Frostfire by Amanda Hocking

about the book

Hidden deep in the heart of a snow-covered wilderness lies the secret kingdom of the Kanin―a magical realm as beautiful as it is treacherous…
Bryn Aven has never fit into Kanin society. Her blond hair and blue eyes set her apart as an outsider―a half-blood unable to hold a respectable rank. But she's determined to prove herself as a loyal protector of the kingdom she loves. Her dream is to become a member of the King's elite guard, and she's not going to let anything stand in her way…not even her growing feelings for her boss, Ridley Dresden. A relationship between them is strictly forbidden, but Bryn can't fight her attraction to him. And she's beginning to think he feels it too.
Meanwhile, there's an attack on the kingdom―one that will test Bryn's strength like never before. Finally, she has the chance to confront Konstantin Black, the traitor who tried to kill her father years ago. It's up to Bryn to put a stop to him before he strikes again. But is she willing to risk everything to protect a kingdom that doesn't accept her for who she really is? And when her mission brings her closer to Ridley, will she be able to deny her heart?

my thoughts on the book

I am going to do the review a little different on this one. I am going to answer a list of questions about the book.

1. Did you get lost in the book? Yes I sure did. I got so lost in it that I did not know what time it was until my husband came to bed and turned the light off.  There was times I actually felt like I was the main character Bryn.

2. Was the character development intriguing? Yes it was.  To follow Bryn in her journey of trying to find the guy who was going after her people and learning her true feelings for Ridley was very intriguing .

3. Did you care about the characters? Yes, I did. I was hoping that Bryn would become close to Ridley.  When Bryn was worried or upset with her friends, I was upset and worried right a long with her.

4. What is your favorite quote from the book? "I've wanted to kiss you practically since the day I met you. But I knew you would never let me."

5. Why was it your favorite quote? Because it showed Bryn that she was not a lone with her feelings.

6. Was there anything you disliked about the book? No there is nothing that I disliked about the book. I thought it was actually a pretty good book to read.

7. Were you engaged immediately, or did it take you a while to "get into it"?  Yes I was immediately engaged in the book.

It is a good book.

10.  Where did you buy it at? I bought it at books a million. But you can purchase it from amazon and Barnes & Noble

I hope you all enjoyed my review of this book and that you all go and pick it up to read.

Happy Reading Yall.

Scarlet The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

about the book

Cinder is back and trying to break out of prison―even though she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive if she does―in this second installment from Marissa Meyer.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother, or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana.

my thoughts on the book

This is a really good book to read. I had started to read it back in July but as my daughter would not let me read it everytime I picked it I never did finish it until yesterday. Yesterday while my husband was home I picked the book up and did not put it down until I had it read completely. Which I think when I picked it up to read I had like 300 something pages to read and I finished it last night about 8:30 or 9:00 one. I really do think it is a good book.

I loved how I was pulled into the book so much that I felt like I was Scarlet and then Cinder. I felt like when Scarlet was searching for her grandmother I was right there with her. I was right there with her when she meet Wolf. I imaged that he kind of looked like my husband (but that is only because I never can image what another guy looks like as I always see my husband and he  is the only one I want to image lol ) I felt like I was going right a long with Cinder as she tries to find answers.

Yes, I am recommending this book to you all to read. Go now and pick it up. Go pick it up at target or buy it on amazon. You will be happy that you read it. That is if you like books like this.

Now I am off to try to read another. Happy Reading
